ISU Women's Soccer

POCATELLO, Idaho – Maria Sanchez scored two goals and added an assist in her first-ever regular-season college match and Amanda Ellsworth added two more to lead Idaho State to a 4-2 victory over Minot State (N.D.) at soggy Davis Field Friday afternoon.
Conditions varied from downpour to sunshine and back again but the Bengal attack was unrelenting.
Ellsworth got on the board in the sixth minute when a cross from Katherine Roberts was deflect by Sanchez to Ellsworth who standing just in front of the goal where she tapped it past the keeper for her first goal of the season in just the sixth minute of the match.
The goal was her 24th career goal and advanced her past Stacey Peterson-Allen for sole possession of the Idaho State points record. She finished the game with 59.
The goal is a typical one for Ellsworth. She has knack for being around the goal and ready to score when other players can't get the ball into the net.
"Amanda is not the take-on-and-score-all-the-goals-that-way type of player," Head Coach Allison Gibson Said. "She has an element of that but she's actually better at finishing goals and being kind of a wing man if you will. That's why she was so successful with Rachel Strawn, who did all of that work and drew defenders. I think that's what Maria does for her as well. I feel like they're extremely different players but they complement each other very well."
Sanchez tallied her first goal in the 28th minute when she gathered a pass 20 yards away from the goal, made her defender miss and sent a shot past MSU goalkeeper Gemma Biasetto.
Minot State managed three shots in the first half with one on goal. ISU goalkeeper Sheridan Hapsic was perfect through the first 45 minutes of the match. At the break she was replaced with Maria Dela Cruz.
Sanchez again found paydirt in the second frame. In the 49th minute she scored a header on a rebound from a near-miss by Roberts.
Not to be outdone Ellsworth scored a second goal of her own in the 58th minute when Roberts headed an errant Minot pass back to Ellsworth who beat three defenders and the goalkeeper on a drive into the box for the score.
Minot State scored two goals in the last third of the game. In the 69th minute a defensive breakdown left Chloe Melton in a one-on-one with Dela Cruz. Dela Cruz's challenge was just beat out by Melton and she scored on the empty net.
In the final minute of the game Emilie Rebelo took shot on a free-kick from the midfield line. The ball snuck under the bar and over Delz Cruz attempt to swat the ball back into play.
Idaho State outshot the Beavers 21-10. Ten of ISU's shots were on goal compared to three for MSU.
Hapsic made one save on the day and Biasetto tallied six.
"I am still not sure what the defense is capable of, both goals that we allowed today and the one against Westminster were our mistakes. Our offense was pushing ahead and attacking and we might have pushed too hard and they scored on counters. We are going to find out what we can do when we play Wyoming next week."
The Bengals host their first division I foe of the season next Friday at 4 p.m. when Wyoming comes to play at Davis Field. The Bengals defeated Wyoming last season in Laramie 1-0 in double overtime.

We Are Your Bengals

Welcome

Welcome to the Newest Page for DSN.  The Dynamic Social Network.
Thank you for your support in all that we do and we look forward to continually serving each community as we stretch out across the state and on as we stretch to other states.  Many new things will continue to come on board and we will have a new look and logo.  We will still be bringing you as much information and of course many broadcasts as we work to better the broadcasts, which I think you will be able to see.  Run downs of games that are coming up and events that will be broadcast.  Remember, you may have to click on a different schools button if your broadcast is your schools page that evening and watch right on your schools page with all the new, exciting, special things and now in "Flash" which is one of the best and clearest forms of internet broadcasting.  So be patient as we grow and realize it all gets better from here as we add more events from communities from all over Idaho.  Thank You,  Bruce Herker - President TriStar Broadcasting - Dynamic Social Network.
